by: Jeffery L Campbell, Ph.D.

This research contains four case studies of custodial programs at  The University of North Carolina, The University of Michigan, The University of Texas – Austin and The University of Massachusetts.  Recent research reveals that janitorial budgets account for 30 percent of all facility budgets.  With the current economic trend, every aspect of the total facility budget is becoming more accountable.  This research highlights how four major U.S. universities implemented measurable standards, updated business practices, improved cleanliness outcomes and experienced significant savings.  These findings were published in the September/October 2011 issue of APPA’s publication Facilities Manager.
